Class studies cells from 1951
Students in Mr. Jeff Karns' biology class looked at HeLa cells. This is the oldest human cell line in the world. These cells were taken from cervical cancer tissue in 1951 from Henrietta Lacks. They have been sent to space, researched all around the globe, used to help develop polio vaccine, study affects of radiation and chemotherapy on cancer cells, and so much more. Now they have been used to study chromosomes at Franklin Community High School.
