Ed Flex Waiver

Franklin Community Schools is applying for an Ed Flex Waiver. The Ed Flex Waiver allows FCS to carry over unspent funds from the 2022-23 Title I-A Federal Grant. The funds were already allocated to our district, and the waiver will allow us to carry over all previously unspent funds into the current school year grant.

The district plans on spending a majority of the carry-over funds for professional development (PD) opportunities for the teachers and staff and the remaining funds for STEM equipment for multiple buildings in the district. The professional development opportunities that will be made available to our district with these funds are as follows:
  • Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work Conference: A team from the high school will attend a PLC conference from Solution Tree in Minneapolis, MN, which will provide teachers with best practices regarding the PLC process and how to reach all students.
  • RTI at Work Conference: Two elementary schools will attend an RTI at Work Conference from Solution Tree, which will provide teachers with approaches to interventions with struggling students and how those intervention programs fit within the workings of their schools.
  • Classroom 180 Conference: An elementary school will attend a Classroom 180 conference that will equip teachers with the tools they need to guide their classroom of students who have experienced trauma.
  • PLC Leader PD at Solution Tree in Bloomington: PLC leaders and administrators will attend this PD session to learn how to better lead the PLC process in their buildings, including managing data cycles and using data to make instructional decisions.
  • PD for new Online Platforms: New programs require training to appropriately implement them into the learning process. Funds from the Ed Flex Waiver will allow teachers to learn the most impactful ways to utilize these new platforms.
  • Instructional Coach PD: Instructional coaches and Assistant Superintendent will attend virtual PD on Better Conversations, Partnership Learning Presentations, and High Impact Teaching Strategies to better equip themselves for coaching our teachers.
  • Summer District-Wide PD: This will allow buildings to gather their teachers outside of contract times to learn more about Orton-Gillingham, ILEARN data, priority goals, Reveal/Wonders pacing guides, ELA curriculum mapping, grade-level planning, behavior team planning, PLC leader training, culture committee meetings, high ability reading PD, intentional interventions, and Title I/RTI updates.
  • AI for Educators Book: teachers and administrators will be led on a book study to learn more about AI for Educators.
  • New Teacher Orientation: Book study for new teachers.
