Karle Hougland Named Northwood Principal

Franklin Community Schools is pleased to announce that Karle Hougland has been named the next Northwood Elementary. The FCS Board of School Trustees approved the recommendation at the March 13 meeting.

Hougland returns to Franklin after serving as an assistant administrator at Whiteland Elementary. Prior to that, Hougland was an instructional coach at Custer Baker Intermediate School and Union Elementary. She also spent eight years teaching at Northwood and Union Elementary. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Franklin College and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Butler University.

“I am so excited to return to Franklin Schools and Northwood Elementary, as both are home to me. I am a graduate of Franklin Community High School and Franklin College, completed my student teaching at Northwood Elementary, and was a teacher at Northwood for six years as well,” Hougland said. “I hope to give back to the community that has given so much to me, as this is where I have grown up and where my children go to school as well.  I am looking forward to continuing Northwood’s legacy of high expectations for student achievement and a strong sense of community. Proud to be a Grizzly Cub and Northwood Owl!”

“We are thrilled to have Karle back with us in Franklin,” Dr. Clendening, Superintendent, said. “Her knowledge and background in literacy, her pride in the community, and her proven commitment to growing kids made her the perfect candidate for this role.”

Hougland replaces Andrea Korreck, who will assume a new position at FCS at the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
