Dear Union Families,

I wanted to send out some information about @HomeLearning and our last month of school.  Many of this has already been communicated from Central Office, but I wanted to circle back to some specific items.  Please don't hesitate to reach out via email with any questions.

School Schedule - As you already know, we will have school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays through the final day of the 2019-2020 school year on Wednesday, May 13th. That gives us 12 days of school between now and the end of this school year.  Franklin Schools will use the IDOE Waiver Days on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students can still complete any work they need to during these waiver days, but no new work will be assigned on those days. I know our teachers will do their absolute best to make these final days of the school year as great as possible for your student, even with the limitations of @HomeLearning.

Chromebooks  - If you have an issue with a Chromebook and you can not resolve the issue at home, please fill out our Chromebook Repair form by clicking here.  This will allow us to ensure you get a working Chromebook in a timely manner.  With the unknown of when the stay home order will be over, FCS has decided that students in grades K-12 will keep their Chromebooks over the summer and bring them with them when we return in the fall.  Students will still have access to their device over the summer, but each device will still be monitored through our GoGuardian filter.

Kindergarten Registration - We will be having online registration for our incoming kindergarten students, so please stay tuned for that in early May. We will need your help in spreading the word to be sure we get all of our incoming kindergarten students signed up!

Lunch Account - Mrs. Overton has confirmed that all balances will be rolled over to next school year.  If you have any concerns regarding your account, you can contact Jill Overton (

Fast Track - Fast Track will be on Wednesday, July 29th from 5:30 - 7:00 PM at Custer Baker Intermediate School.   Your child will be provided with a backpack, basic school supplies, and connections with many community resources.  Please remember students need to qualify for Free/Reduced lunch to participate in Franklin Fast Track. The deadline to complete this registration is May 29, 2020!  Click Here to Register

Yearbooks - Yearbooks will be shipped to us in the next few weeks.  Depending on the guidelines from the state, we will determine a pick up process that ensures all of our safety but also allows the students to enjoy their books this summer.  Stay tuned for more information and dates!

I know there are many questions right now about this spring, summer, and about our next school year.  We are planning for as much as we can anticipate and will share more as we go along. A lot depends on Governor Holcomb's declarations, information from the Indiana Department of Education, as well as guidance from our local officials.

Our hearts hurt that we were unable to reunite before the end of the school year.  We have been busy working on many items to make some of our events come to life in a different way.  It is important for our kids. Please continue to stay connected to our Facebook page and the classroom teacher communication.

Lastly, THANK YOU!  Thank you for being actively engaged with your child’s learning.  We appreciate you. It truly is a team effort, and we are thankful for all of your support.  We know @HomeLearning is not the same as the classroom, but our teachers are working hard to ensure learning continues and engagement is at a high level.  It’s a difficult time for all of us, and it’s important to let you know how much we value you as part of the team.

Please give all our little Ramblers a hug from the U!

Be Safe,

Mrs. Smith
