At four of the county libraries this May, the Early Learning Coalition and the libraries will be sponsoring a kindergarten readiness event for children entering kindergarten (and their families). We'll have stations and activities based around kindergarten expectations, a storytime for kids to practice circle time, and a panel discussion of kindergarten teachers or other school employees who can speak to parents about what they should expect and how they can help prepare their child. Our event is on Monday, May 1st, from 6:00-7:30, at the Franklin library, and will be focused on the Franklin school system. I'm looking for three employees, each would talk about one of the topics below:
1. Curriculum: General information about curriculum and academic expectations, information on assessments, and communications from school.
2. Day in the life of a kindergartener: Information about the schedule, including independent personal skills children will need to succeed in the classroom, cafeteria, and restroom. Tips for encouraging the personal skills they’ll need for school at home.
3. Social/Emotional skills: Tips for meeting the behavioral expectations of the classroom, including asking for help when they need it, taking turns, sharing, patience, listening skills, etc.
Would you have any kindergarten teachers who would like to join us for this event? Or is there someone else you'd like me to contact?
