The boys volleyball team traveled to Southport High School Friday evening to play in the IBVCA State Quarterfinals. Matched up against Cathedral, a team they had split two regular season matches with, the Grizzly Cubs were hoping to move on in search of the program’s first state title.
For the second year in a row the baseball team finished atop the Mid-State Conference standings. The team finished with conference record of 8-4 to finish in a tie with Martinsville. In the final regular season series of the season, the Grizzly Cubs split a pair of games against the Decatur Central Hawks.
Prior to the event, retiring Head Coach Tim Leonard was honored by Athletic Director John Regas for his 30 years of service to the FCHS Girls Track team. The FCHS Athletic Department wishes to extend our sincerest thank you for all Coach Leonard has done for FCHS in the classroom and on the athletic fields!
The Lady Cubs hosted the IHSAA Sectional on a hot, breezy Tuesday evening. Franklin finished in a tie for 3rd place behind Center Grove and Columbus North. During the IHSAA State Tournament, the top 3 participants automatically qualify for the next round. Callbacks occur for the top 4 marks in the feeder locations that do not finish in the top 3.
The girls tennis team finished 4th overall in the Mid-State Conference Tournament. The tournament was extended a few days due to poor weather conditions late last week. The #2 doubles team of Rachel Pinnick and Allison Bennett won their bracket to earn the All-Conference honors.
Kloie Doublin and Jennica Bladridge competed in the IPF World Classic Bench Press Championships. Kloie Doublin claimed the title of World Bench Press Champion and Best Lifter of the Meet!
The boys golf team is starting to find the groove as they head into the middle of their season. They got things started off with two wins in three days. The defeated Mooresville and Whiteland 155-168-189 on April 25. The following night they dropped a match to Perry Meridian 316-328.
During a two week period, the FCHS softball team has seen a little bit of everything. Mother nature has wreaked havoc on field conditions but they have still managed to squeeze in four games in the last two weeks.
The boys and girls track team put on a strong performance last Tuesday evening to come away with a first and second place finish at the Mid-State Conference Meet at Greenwood.
“Unified Sports® was first developed by Special Olympics as a means of providing a quality experience of sports training and competition in an inclusive environment that allows friendships to form. It is the vision of this joint IHSAA / Special Olympics Indiana (SOIN) sports project to allow high school students with and without intellectual disabilities to collectively represent their high school in an IHSAA sanctioned activity by participating together on a Unified Sports® team.”
The baseball team started play last week at the Columbus East Invitational. In the opener the Grizzly Cubs were downed by the host Olympians 10-0. Playing in the consolation round, the Grizzly Cubs trounced Herron High School 29-0 to finish in third place.
The girls tennis team has run off four wins in a row after their first loss of the season against Mooresville. On Saturday, April 15, the Lady Cubs played two conference opponents picking up victories over Plainfield and Martinsville.
