Franklin Community Schools Names Katie Smith as Union Principal

Franklin Community Schools is proud to announce that Katie Smith has been named principal at Union Elementary. The FCS School Board of Trustees approved the recommendation at the March 13 board meeting.

Most recently, Smith has served as principal at Northwood Elementary for the last seven years. Prior to that, she was a kindergarten teacher and literacy coach at Northwood Elementary.   Smith earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Ball State University.

“The hallmark of any school is the having a great principal.  Katie is the consummate professional in this area.  She leads with passion, love, and vision.  Union Elementary has been blessed to have many outstanding principals in its storied history.  Katie's new role in leadership will further support the journey of this school and district on its quest to being GREAT.” Dr. David Clendening, Superintendent said, “The mighty Ramblers will be racing towards a new path, and I cannot wait to see the many innovative and engaging things that will come from Katie's leadership.”

“Although, it will be hard to leave the nest after sixteen years, I'm excited for the new experience,” Katie Smith said.  “Union is legendary, and I'm anxious to be the leader of this great school.  I value the traditions I have heard about for years, and I am eager to be a part of them.  I know the importance of a positive school culture, and I will cultivate the culture to ensure individual student growth.  Together, we will continue the excellence of Union Elementary.  Go Ramblers!”
